IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD
John 1:1-2
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God.
In this particular scripture "Word" is from the Greek logos, meaning something said, mental reasoning, thought, expression, intention. Jesus is the Word, the logos, the thought, intention, mind, image and expression of God. The writer Apostle John who was inspired by the Holy Spirit gives us the understanding of the person of Jesus throughout the Gospel of John. The point he brings home in this first chapter (John 1) is that the eternal God himself, became human, he became flesh. In the beginning, was the Word, the Word was with God, the Word was God. (John 1:1)
In John chapter one we are given a snap shot of John the baptist, whom was assigned to go before Jesus as the forerunner to tell the world about his coming, his purpose for coming and what his coming would mean to those who would believe on his name. (John 20:31) What an assignment and purpose from God. He could only know and speak that which was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit because he had never met Jesus until the day he came to be baptized by John the baptist.(John 1:29-36 & Matthew 3:15)
John the apostle writes that Jesus is the Word who was with God from the beginning. From this we can understand that Jesus was not created from the dust of the ground such as man was created, but he existed with God who has no beginning or ending he is everlasting. Isaiah 43:13 says before the day was, I Am... The day is an expression of time so God lets us know through his word that he is the I Am that existed before time.He is the creator of time. The bible also tells us that Jesus who is the Son of God is one with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. First John chapter five and verse seven: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. Jesus the Word came through time though he existed outside of time. He left heaven to fulfill the Father's plan. (John 1:14) Jesus is the very word of God made flesh and at the same time he is God.
It is important to us to get this understanding down in our spirit and soul so that when the enemy tries to speak a lie about Jesus we can stand on God's word. There are some who are of the belief that Jesus is not the Son of God and would even say he is not important to Salvation. My bible tells me the accurate truth, over and over again and not only that, but a day is coming when Jesus will return and judge the world. So when Jesus came to earth this is a expression of God himself who essentially gave himself in the form of his son Jesus to save the world. (Read Colossians 1:15-20) God has highly exalted Jesus as we read in Philippians 2:8-11 every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord. Every word of God stands forever.
